Missouri CAN MVP: Shanna Yount, EMAA

Shanna Yount, East Missouri Action Agency Program Coordinator

Nominated by: Tonya Hinch, East Missouri Action Agency

Shanna is a Program Coordinator at our agency, East Missouri Action Agency, for the LIHEAP and Summer Food programs but she goes above and beyond those duties.  Shanna provides the training and tech assistance to staff for both programs.  She works overtime with her staff to help process LIHEAP applications and supervises the other application processors. Even with the large workload of those programs, she also helps with facilities, supervises janitorial  (including covering some of the duties when that employee is not in), helps schedule our traveling CSR’s, is a member of the  MIS On-Boarding team and serves as the Secretary for the local Employee Association chapter.    She gets our supplies ordered and even has made store runs to stock the vending machines.

“Most recently she began a food drive within our department and delivered food to two different families in need this past holiday season.”

Shanna is always lending a helping hand to those in need and often gives back to the community outside of work.  She has donated numerous times to local causes and shelters and is often helping low-income in need.  Most recently she began a food drive within our department and delivered food to two different families in need this past holiday season.  She also spent many hours trying to locate travel and shelter for a homeless woman who happened to get Shanna when she called the agency.   Shanna could have just forwarded the homeless woman along to the CSR at the county outreach office but she didn’t. She contacted different service providers and kept in touch with the woman until a solution was found.

What makes Shanna unique is her unconditional kindness to those in need, including customers and co-workers.  Regardless of how she has been treated by a customer or co-worker, if someone needs help she will make it happen somehow.   She has a big heart for those who are down on their luck when other folks would turn their backs. In my opinion, she is a Missouri CAN MVP.
